Prepare
Some transitions are completely unexpected, but for those that aren’t, a little preparation can go a long way. Make a plan for navigating the transition. Set reasonable goals for yourself when you plan. Talk to people you trust to get their advice. Manage your expectations. Things won’t go perfectly to your plan and that’s okay. Things probably also won’t go as badly as you fear either.
Stay Connected
Transitions can often leave us feeling untethered. It is important to maintain healthy relationships during a transition in life. Whether it’s exciting news or something truly devastating, having loved ones there for support is vital. Don’t be afraid to reach out to those you trust when you need help.
Practice Self Care
Transitions can put a lot of strain on our bodies and minds. It is important to practice self care to insure that we are ready for the challenges ahead. Do your best to maintain a healthy diet. Don’t neglect your personal hygiene. Create a routine to provide structure in your life. Most of all, be compassionate with yourself. You aren’t going to get everything right. Show yourself some grace.
